How many of these facts are actually true?

January 25th, 2009 by admin

1. National scientific advisers (such as the National Academy of Sciences) depend on climate change research funding to stay in operation

2. During most of the past 2,000 years, the temp has been about the same or higher. Currently, we are barely over the average for the last 2,000 years.

3. During the medieval warm period (820 – 1040 AD), Greenland supported farming. Those areas previously farmed are now covered in glaciers. Obviously the melting and reformation of glaciers is a cyclical occurrence.

4. The earth experienced a little ice age which ended around the late 1860's or so. This is about the time man started recording temperatures. This would be like measuring a lake depth after a severe drought, then worrying about it flooding as it rose to normal levels.

5. The earth has been warming for the last 18,000 years, since the last major glacier time period. During this time frame, the glaciers have been melting at a fairly consistent rate. Also, for most of the last 1 billion years, the earth had NO glaciers or ice coverage.
http://www.museum.state.il.us/exhibits/ice_ages/

6. The AGW theory states that CO2 is the primary driver of temperature. They arrived at this idea because they did not know of anything else which could cause it. But during the 70's and during the current decade, temperatures dropped while CO2 continued to rise. This means that natural occurrences are driving temp, not CO2.

6. The Pacific Decadal Oscillation and sun spots provides a much better correlation to earths' temperature than CO2 levels ever have. (Do the references say that decadal oscillations and sunspots provide a better correlation than CO2?)

7. Polar Bears are experiencing a population boom. Coke sales in the arctics are through the roof. Polar Bears have been around for thousands of years, and remember, we are only at the average for the last 2,000 years. They lived through all the previously warmer climates. The original picture of 2 bears on a floating ice block was a complete scam. The photographer explained that the bears were in no danger and close to shore. The picture was lifted from a public PC by another passenger and sent around the world. (Does this mean they are safe when their habitat disappears?)

8. Many glaciers are expanding. Even Antarctica is growing on 98% of is land mass. Only 2% is melting.

9. There is no consensus on AGW. This was a lie that has been propagated by the media.

10. Yes we emit CO2 into the atmosphere and it is a greenhouse gas, but, we only contribute about .28% of all the greenhouse effect. Water vapor makes up about 95% of the greenhouse effect. CO2 and other trace gases round out the greenhouse gases at about 5% for all of them. Of that 5%, only 3% is CO2, and most of that is natural. Again, our contribution to the greenhouse effect is a paltry .28%

11. The spread of disease is not attributed mainly to temperature. If this were the case, Florida would be a giant festering disease ridden cesspool. Economic standing is the primary determining factor in the spread of disease. Poor cultures can not fight the disease or eradicate the pests like more successful nations.

12. Natural climate disasters (hurricanes, cyclones, etc) have never been scientifically linked to global warming (whether natural or man made).

1. Not true and just a sad rejigging of the scientists are in it for the money myth
2. Data from multiple sources show this is not true
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2000_Year_Temperature_Comparison.png
3. Easily proved not true, the areas the vikings lived in during MWP were on the South and South West coast these areas are still ice free with modern settlements in the same areas.
4. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11645
5. Talking about what happened 1 billion years ago is pointless given periods of significantly higher volcanic activity and Co2 of 10 times current levels, and Earth warming for the last 18,000 years is also not true, there was a warming which ended the last ice age 10,000 years ago the mean of this graph show a slight downward trend from around 8000 years ago.
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Holocene_Temperature_Variations.png
6. PDO, ElNino and Solar activity have and do act on climate the first two are probably responsible for the periodic drops that can be seen in the long term temperature record
7. Given that polar bears hunt there main prey from ice, shrink polar ice will affect them, they have to hunt seals from ice because, yes they are good swimmers but seals are much better. The current state of their number is thought to be "Of the 19 recognized polar bear subpopulations, 5 are declining, 5 are stable, 2 are increasing, and 7 have insufficient data" hardly a population explosion given the large number of seals and the fact that as a large hunting animal they have few humans to deal with, which has been a problem for other large hunting animals like lions whose numbers are done to below 50,000 and their numbers are thought to be nearing endangered, there are ~25,000 Polar Bears, half the number of Lions
8. Red and orange is shrinking Blue is growing (not much blue to be seen)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Glacier_Mass_Balance_Map.png
9. Laughably not true, although I sure Heartland will say otherwise
10. true for a change, of course without the 95% H20 we would be 30c colder compared to the relative small effect of the added co2 which is so far ~0.6c
11. Possible true (if you are an American) but if you live in current cooler areas of Eastern Europe or Northern Asia or Southern Africa were mosquito's are currently controlled/limited by cooler winters you might feel a little different.
12. The actual theory is that they will cause an increase in the long term (the next hundred years) so it's to early to say. There is some media hype and what seems to be deniers saying "you predicted this last Tuesday were are all the hurricanes"

Best Moving Company in San Diego?

January 23rd, 2009 by admin

Hi,

I need to move from Ocean Beach to Pacific Beach, in San Diego. It's just moving the contents of a one bedroom apartment, which include a computer desk, a futon, a bed (just mattress, box spring, and portable frame), dresser, and credenza, as well as loose items in boxes.

I don't have anything that fragile, and I'd like an affordable but reliable service. I can either rent the uhaul myself or get the full service and use their truck if it's cheaper. I do need people to pick up the heavy things for me though. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would suggest that you check out Angie's List. I've had great luck with them, and we found our mover through them. They solicit opinions from hundreds and hundreds of homeowners on work that they've had done. That way, you get many many opinions about any given company, not just one.

In San Diego, they cost about $9 a month, or about $70 per year plus a $15 sign up fee. I've definitely saved more than that, just from getting reliable recommendations for contractors. Even if you don't own your home, and you just wanted a one-month membership for a mover, I think it would be a great investment to make sure you choose the right mover.

US Navy ship passing through time or space warp?

January 22nd, 2009 by admin

I read this from another poster on Yahoo Q&A, and I vaguely recall seeing it on one of those paranormal TV shows. There was an incident where the US Government tried to send a US Navy ship through a special space warp. They started in the Pacific Ocean and wound-up moments later in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of New Jersey (I think). The only problem was that not all of the sailors made it safely…some vanished. And the rest that did survive, had parts of their bodies embedded in the frame of the Navy ship. Does anyone know of this? Any references to it on the internet? Thanks.

Google "Philadelphia Experiment".

By the way, this is 100% bogus.
Where is the nearest space warp? Has anyone seen one?

Recumbent bike?

January 15th, 2009 by admin

I'm a commuter cyclist who bikes about 15-16 miles daily to work and back. It's basically all roads and paved trails, and I live in the pacific northwest, so it's raining much of the year. I've been doing this with my diamond-frame for about 6 months now and I'd like to switch to a recumbent, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what I should look for and what a good, solid, well-build model for this type of cycling would cost (any links with more information would also be appreciated).

Here is a great website you should probably become a member of since you are considering a recumbent bike.
http://www.recumbents.com/home.asp
I am a member and I'm building a custom recumbent for myself now. That website has a bunch of information if you are interested in finding out which recumbent is right for you. There are many different styles and brands of recumbent bikes so you really should find out what works for you since they all have advantages and disadvantages. They also have links to websites that have reliable good recumbent bikes. I would definitely say to check it out. I love recumbents because they are just an all around better bike that diamond frames just because of wind resistance and riding position. Unlike diamond frames you are not putting any stress on your wrists, elbows, or shoulders not too mention a much more comfortable riding position and say good bye to slender uncomfortable seats. They do use different muscles though so it might take some time to develop the different muscles.
I would say a recumbent is the way to go I swear by them now. Have fun and I hope to see you on the website.

Asian genetic anthropology?

January 13th, 2009 by admin

I have a ‘personal’ question (which may be seen as a collective of many questions in one) which concerns me genetically.

Information about me:
- Young man in his late teens
- 185cm tall (a bit over 6 feet)
- give or take, 100kg (240 or so pounds)
- Large pectoral, calf and quad/thigh muscles. Broad shoulders. Muscular frame (not going to lie, I have some fat, but I am more or less of a more muscular build)
- Hairy as hell.
- Ethnicity of Burmese (Southeast Asian) decent.

Basically, I kind of look like a pacific islander with a more distinctly Asian face. What this question is concerned about, is the matter of my size and “hairiness” so to speak. Firstly, my height isn’t that much of a surprise, it’s more so my ‘largeness’ with a wide frame. I gather it may be due to my 1/8th English heritage on my mother’s side, as most peoples of Burma and the rest of Southeast Asia generally do not grow very tall, let alone large like I do, making me an “oddity”. Also, another attribute may be due to the fact I was born and raised in Australia, as most Asian children generally grow larger in a more developed nation then they would in their own.

In terms of my ‘hairiness’ I can most certainly say that I acquired this trait from my father’s side (as he and the rest of his family are hairy). The thing is, most Asians (especially Burmese) seem to be hairless. Now fair enough I could attribute this to the fact I’m 1/8th of English decent on my mother’s side, but the fact is, they’re all pretty much hairless on my mother’s side. Besides that 1/8th, from what I can tell, I’m essentially Southeast Asian. One possibility could be that later down my genetic history there may have been some Middle Eastern immigrant in the mix as Islam seems to be a practiced religion in those Southeast Asian regions (If you totally ignore the fact that my father and his side of the family are totally Buddhist).

Basically, I’ve come to the realisation that without scientific study done on my genetics, there is no telling for sure what makes me “me”, but essentially I’m curious as to whether anybody else may have any theories or ideas as to what may attribute to this rather odd phenomenon, that is my life.
P.S. When I was in High School I played on the school’s rugby league team as a prop/forward. Just to give you an idea of what I mean by an “oddity” in terms of size. I mean, come on, an Asian as a prop for a rugby league team in Australia? That sort of thing doesn’t really happen. Lol.

You didn’t really ask a question, however, genetic “throwbacks” are commonplace, which is why an occasional elephant will look like a mammoth, or why grandchildren often, more closely resemble their grandparents…

Your future society………….?

Does anybody believe that the following prophecies could come to pass?

Consider the following prophecies below written by the Christian Prophet Jonathan Hansen. Notice that he wrote these prophecies from the year 1997 when there were seemingly no signs of real trouble in America.

World Ministries International
Jonathan Hansen

Warning for 1998 - 2008
Note: 1998-2008 is not a time frame deadline for all to be fulfilled, but is the time to heavily focus on sharing the WARNING message for America.

During 1998 Pastor Hansen spoke in 40 cities in 30 states about the condition and future of America. The following was in an advertisement in The Seattle Times on December 26, 1997 regarding the United States of America.

*Stock Market Collapse
*Nuclear Attack
*Civil Unrest
*Social Security Collapse
*Natural disasters; tornadoes; tidal waves; the sea dying; 20 lb. hail stones; water poisoning; food shortages; red tides*
*Powerful Northwest Earthquake (Newly Discovered Earthquake Zone in Seattle Area 2003) (Pacific Northwest Tectonic Plates Are Moving) (FEB 2008 Mega EQ could inflict major damage on Pacific NW) (APRIL 11, 2008 Swarm of Earthquakes Detected Off Oregon) (MARCH 4, 2008 Seattle Emergency management officials prepare for catastrophic EQ)

On television Reverend Hansen warned concerning what was coming upon America and why. He read the Seattle Times advertisement then added the following items:

* The 520 bridge will collapse (This is a 1-mile long floating bridge across Lake Washington from Seattle to Bellevue and Redmond where Microsoft and Nintendo America are located).
* Mt. Rainier will erupt

On several radio stations Rev. Hansen warned concerning what was coming upon America:

* Nuclear, biological and chemical terrorism in different cities throughout America as well as several attacks. New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles and Florida. In remote areas there will be biological, chemical and nuclear experimentation. In the Pacific Northwest and Casper, Wyoming there will be a nuclear incident. There will also be chemical, biological, nuclear terrorism, and/or attack on the U.S. throughout the United States.
* In the Northwest, volcanic activity will occur.
* Earthquakes across America.

To avoid the above, there must be a mighty, genuine revival (repentance) as in Nineveh (Jonah 3:5-10). Or, a powerful spirit of prayer must arise that will result in the mercy and grace of God as Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18:23-33). There is hope! If we meet the conditions of God (II Chronicles 7:14), he will hear our call, forgive us and heal the land! If we do not meet the conditions, judgment will fall and all of the prophecies will come to pass.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we the Church and people in America need to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in reality and practicality to avoid these events warned by the Lord from coming to pass. It is our sins that allow our enemies to hurt us.

God bless America, and may America look to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

Yes, just study the bible and look at the immoral world today and how our “leaders” are trying to run/ruin things. Where is God Jehovah in America? I thought America was founded on In GOD WE TRUST!?! What are most Americans looking for is it truely God? Or Mammon? You can’t serve two masters God or mammon Matthew 6:24 Praise God and His Holy Name!!!

* Mt. Rainier will erupt

* Earthquakes across America.
